Having recently made the video about using the DEQ2496 for room correction, I wondered if there would be interest in a 'pass it to the next guy' group play with the unit?

I'd be willing to loan out my personal DEQ along with measurement mic for people on this forum to play with for a week each. I'll post it to the first person, then they post it to the next person on the list an so on.

My DEQ2496 has the current 'Gold' analog output and input modifications, which means it should be well up to the job of DAC duties as well as ADC for recording / Room Correcting analog sources. The 'Aux' jack outputs are un-modified.

Am i to take it that the deq sits between the cdp (or dac) and the amp?

I have a small room and largish speakers, is this designed to tame things?

It can 'insert' in a number of ways. Either digital input and analog output (acting as DAC).

Or it can take analog inputs and analog outputs to sit between pre and power.

It can also take digital in and digital out.

IT really helps to tame bass boom.

So, is it better to have the 'right' speakers for your room or have a pair of speakers you like (like my ruarks but probably a little large for the room) and apply room correction?

Up to you really. I don't think any choice of speaker will give you as smooth a bass response as a digitally corrected system though.

Wow that is a fine offer.
How many drivers/way can it handle?

I have been thinking of trying DEQ or DSP on the tapped and midbass horns I have just to see what the effect / viability of this sort of thing is.
Would it work with DEQ on sub bass & mid bass amps / drivers and normal feed for the rest of the amps / drivers or does DEQ introduce a delay that can't be overcome?

I already quint or pent-amp Depending on where it is possible to insert the DEQ it might be a goer.

    Hi Steve,

The DEQ is a stereo unit intended for EQing the system as a whole.

If you wanted to play with DSP crossovers for your multi-way system then the DCX is the one for you. It has 6 output configurable any way you want (usually 3-way stereo).

Both bits of kit, being DSP based, introduce some delay, about 6ms for the DEQ IIRC (no delay function enabled).

I've got both bits of kit, both fully modified. I'm looking to sell my DCX crossover actually as I will be building a custom DSP crossover in the near future.

Yeah, no one. I don't have a spare unit anymore.

How much does a room correction device like this cost?

I had one of these awhile back but not Tenson's. Mine was the stock one without upgrades. In stock form it is a very good and cheap way to correct any boom in your room. It is a sod to set up as i think you need to do both channels separately. You would need Tenson to help you along with all the controls as this thing can do so much.

I got distracted by multi amping and more recently a Fidelity Research FR64S tone arm & Raal Lazy ribbon tweeters...

I have gone for DSP but only on the Tapped horns.

I got 2 anti-mode 8033C's and they did what they say on the tin.

    From this

    to this

all measurements taken with ECN8000 mic at ear level / in listening position.

Of course it only works 15Hz to 150Hz but that is where I needed it.
The other improvements are horn mount termination, some discrete acoustic damping on the backs of the drivers to reduce reflections and of course the Ribbon tweeters.

These are very fast to use - plug and play and two button press to cal and come with a mic.

The 5 string bass low B string boom is gone and some of the suck out on slightly higher bass notes filled in nicely. More powerful across the entire rev range.

Not as flexible as DEQ of course.
