Rotel 910A

I won this on eBay for a friend:-

I thought it was £28.11 (including postage) even if it did look a bit shabby. Hopefully the control buttons will be OK after a clean. I've heard Rotel amps a few times and they generally sounded good to my ears.

I just paid £76 for a Technics tuner amp, CD player and dual cassette. This looks like an even better deal.

Rotel 910A arrived and turned out to be 810A. Not sure whether to give the seller the benefit of doubt or just assume that he was dishonest. For £28.11 I can't really expect too much I guess.

 

Dev, still looks a very good amp for £28.

As long as the amp works I won't leave a negative feedback. I just wish he'd cleaned it up before sending it .

The 831A works but unfortunately after moving the tone and balance controls, the sound cuts out on one or both channels, fiddling with them brings it back. I guess they are just dirty(?). Any suggestions, (apart from don't touch them).

Good blast with some switch cleaner and see what happens.
if that doesn't help, might be a loose connection. Happy to take a look if thats the case.

It sounds better than it should for £28.11. I'll be sorry to see it go to be honest. To me it sounds more detailed and less warm that your A&R60. There's not much between the Rotel and Luxman L-31 and I can happily live with either, but the Rotel has one advantage. I can actually listen to it because it's less susceptible to noise. I.e. I don't hear a loud click every few minutes as I do with the Luxman. Looks like I need to look at cleaning the mains supply into the Luxman, or find another amp.

 

Rega Elex is still on offer if you want to try it.

Dev, there is an A&R Arcam Alpha amp in Cash Converters near me. Might suit you if you liked the older A&R?
