I drove 250 miles yesterday to listen to some kit. The dealer is no friend and I would not expect any favours. I am happy to pay for real improvements. Sadly they are very rare and most dealers just offer the usual old stuff that offers a variation on the theme.

Now if you have set yourself a budget and cannot stretch beyond the Rotel (a fine amp at the price) then I think you have made a wise choice. If however you want to talk about realistically reproducing musicians in you room, come on over to England and I will take you to a few setups that might well open your eyes and ears somewhat.

I can stretch beyond the Rotel... in fact before the Rotel I listened in my system the following amps:

    Lavardin IT

    YBA Passion Integre

and now I have the Moon I-5

What can I say more to make you understand why like the Rotel so much... I'm glad it is cheap, the best of both worlds!

As for dealer friends... I also would like to have the Dynaudio's Temptation in my house for the fun of it... besides my listening room is huge... not your case I believe.

    Two points Berry,

One is that my room is large enough to accomodate Proac D100's but size doesn't neccessarily matter. The second is that you are welcome to the Temptations ;)

Average at best, the C4 is far more fun, and to improve on it you really need to go to the Evidence Master (although I'd take the D100 over that anyday!). And before you ask, yes I have heard them all and have installed the Evidence Master ;)

Isn't that great to have a friend who runs an "Hi-fi" store...

So, why do you prefer the D100 over Evidence Master?

Because the midrange sounds more tangible, the bottom end more natural, and they cost a quarter of the price :D

The standouts for me from Dynaudio are the C4 and the C1. If you like accuracy, the Confidence 5 was a stunner too but your Rotel wouldn't really drive it ;)

What do you like about those Yammies?

    Merlin,

Because I get a live feeling. Nothing stands out, nothing is hidden way. I don't care about midrange or bottom end anymore. They are extremely fast, open, choerent and above all natural. (Remember they are not in their stock form.)

But I believe you cannot hear a speaker without hearing the amplifier... so my considerations are related to the Rotel also.
