There is an anti buy new sentiment on this forum. So to appear "clever" people will mention, just in passing, that they didn't pay RRP. Strange but true.

    Cheers

Just did some sums (very slow day at work) and have worked out that since 1989 I have spent about 7% of what I've earned on hifi gear. Of all that gear, I've sold enough to claw back half the amount spent.... so in total I've sunk about 3.5% of my income since then on hifi.
Was it worth it?.... for the pleasure its brought, yes.

    CDS2 was £6k
    NAC 52 was £6k
Ninja TT is impossible to value. An ordinary LP 12 with Armageddon/Aro/Troika would be about £4.4k
    ATC actives about £8k
    Mana supports about £9k

    Total £33.4k

Do I win? Hopefully not. Where is Titian?

    Bub,

you well sort of the mark, plenty here (7+) with £50-60K's one I'm quite sure is £250K plus, then you have hermann, who's mana stack must equate to the third world's total debt  LP12's, arn't they bin liner status? hence the value being not countable?

RRP about £9K, but that gives me four sources (TT, CDP, tuner, HD recorder/player), and a very good headphone setup too, which is pretty good bang for the buck.

Edit: Just worked out it cost me about £5K, including buying the amp and the CDP new.

Ah! Ian's just reminded me I forgot to include my headphone rig. That would probably push me from the £2500-£4999 category I voted for to the next one up...

So the 9k of hifi racks is this excellent value we have been hearing about? Don't waste your money on a cdplayer spend it on nine thousands of pounds worth of metal racking.

I wonder what front end you could have spent that money on.

Oh, gary, do get over it, darling. The Ash Designs is just fine: it suits you very well, in fact.

I've 'done' Mana the expensive way, with three separate towers for the sources, power-supplies and preamplifier. One phase 11 tower would cost about £2.5k retail. In the scheme of things, I think it's very good value. Whatever you do, don't come & listen to it.

Yeah, not nearly enough, 26%. Actually a lot more than that because a lot of the gear is s/h! Bloody hell. Worth every penny, to me, gary. I don't think that you will ever even begin to understand it.

The good news for me is I hope never to understand it, I can't afford 9k for metal and glass.

Still if you get some MAX POWER logos you can pretend its all new!

    You materialistic bastards

    Chaps

Care not what your hifi is worth nor what it has cost you but think more of the joy that it gives you.

    Regards

My HIFI rack cost me a mere £60 and I had struggeled to find the money at the time. I built it myself which helps. Most my HIFI kit is bought end of line which is why I got it quite cheap. The biggest two bargains of mine are:

Philips HP890 - They cost £50, they should be £100. The build quality is great, I have had mine for more than a year, I have worn then at least 2-3 hours everyday and they still look like brand new, only the cable has been replaced. They also sound uteterrly brilliant but I suppose the vocals could be a tad thicker.

The other bagain is my Marantz CD6000 OSE LE for £150. The Sony it replaced sounded naff compared to my tunrtable but the Marantz can easily hold its own. The insides are also very high quality. Its one of the heaviest CDs made below £500 and its hardly surprising considering the materials its made out of.

Wow. The below £2000 group is so under represented for those who poll. The only reason I could think of is they must be generally happy with their toys and don't felt the need to dicsuss about tweaks, cables, room acoustics and whatever that we seems to worry about yet again....
