I've had the Salt Peter album since it's release in 1996 and it's been in the top half of the pile for MOst of that time.

I've been playing it quite a bit lately and it's as great as ever. Interesting, dark, funny, perverted, sexy and twisted lyrics, sometimes softly sung, other times grunted and groaned over processed, electronic, industrial, trip hop beats and the occasional crunchy guitar thrown in for good measure.

It's a pretty unique sound (to my knowledge, though I'd appreciate any tips on anything similar?), having MOre balls and attitude than much of the trip hop i've heard. Infact, extend that beyond just trip hop.

One thing I never got though (and I think I've heard Dom mention this too), is where'd she go after this? One great album (and a remix version) and then nothing!

Well, I thought have a nose and seems she released another, "Short Staffed At the Gene Pool" in 2001.

Has anyone heard it? From what I can gather it's a bit MOre low key, but still a good un. I'd be interested to hear any opinions?

Salt Peter really is worth checking out if it sounds like your kind of thing, or perhaps if you're looking for something new.

I'll second the recommendation for SaltPeter - an album that manages to combine menace with melody!

I've not heard any of her other work though. :(

I know she was in Silverfish before Ruby but that was rather different as far as I can remember. Unless you like things rather more noisy then probably best you avoid them!

Silverfish are great, have you heard Black Eyes? Their self titled is that sort of thing, great

Weyhey - I thought I was the only one (barring the woman who recommended it!) who owned "Salt Peter" - one cracking soundtrack to the train journey from Wolverhapmton->Runcorn (used to always fit in to that part of the journey nicely with the dark sounds and industrial decay).

"The whole is equal to the sum of its parts" is a standout track - very very cool indeed.

Is the singer black? Just curious as I've never seen a photo, but she "sounds" black - if you see what I mean? I have one Silverfish album too (charity shop find) that I've STILL not spun yet - must rectify that (no band photo unfortunately).

Can't help re "Short Staffed At the Gene Pool" but it's almost certainly going to be good :)

Woah - that surprised me! I could have sworn she was black from her voice! Always wandered what she looked like - cheers :)

    Wicked hair colour too!

I'm sure I seen her on Later around the time of Salt Peter, and she had bright blue hair
