    Hi All
Can Anybody Give Me Some Advice Or Have You Used The Russ Andrews "the Silencer". Do They Work ? Or Are There Any Cheaper Units That Do The Same Job?

Don't bother. You're paying a lot of money for a few very cheap components. Look over on the hifi choice forum. Someone pulled one to bits. He said it would cost a couple of quid to make

I did this too, in fact a couple of quid is an overestimate, probably 50p worth of components. RA is the king when it comes to mark ups in hifi. Avoid his products - they are criminally overpriced and mediocre at best.

    But Do They Work ?

Thanks Chaps For Your Reply, although I'm Really Looking To See If They Work. It Dosen't Surprise Me That They Are Cheap To Make, after All How Many Parts Could You Really Fit In That Small Plug Anyway !
So If You Have Used One, Let Me Know Your Comments!

What are the bits inside? Couple of X and Y capacitors?

Does anyone know parts used and their values?

    Thanks

Yeah I got one too, couldnt tell if it made any difference either. I dont necessarily think that most of this stuff is junk, it quite possibly does make a difference, its just that I cant notice them.

    Thanks.
I suppose you need one for each free plug in your whole house and for all the houses on your road?

I tried a couple of silencers - no real improvement - refund with no problems. I do use a purifier block which has made a substantial difference to the sound. I guess that the effects vary depending on how "dirty" your mains are.

As with all RA stuff (as mentioned previously) you've a 60 day money back trial period which is more generous than most dealers I know of....

Neil (who bought a pile of Naim stuff from RA when he was a "mere" hifi dealer and have watched with amusement his rise to king of marketing strategy- but have always found him a thoroulghly nice guy to deal with!)

£39.95p for this by Russ Andrews is one of his classic rip offs.
Using instructions the link penance posted, it could be put together for about £3.

But as Triode Systems state, "They will not replace a good in-line filter but can be an extra cheap weapon to combat mains noise."
Triode systems have couple of DIY in-line filter projects at
    http://www.triode-systems.com/filter_design.htm
with explanations as to why these things may be beneficial.

THANK'S GUY'S, YOUR KNOWLEDGE HAS BEEN EXCELLENT, AND I WILL TAKE IT ALL ON BOARD, LOOK'S LIKE THE DIY OPTION IS MORE FUN, IF IT WORKS "GREAT", AND IF IT DOSEN'T, JUST PUT IT DOWN TO EXPERIENCE. THE BEST QUOTE FOR ME IS OFF TITAN
"I suppose you need one for each free plug in your whole house and for all the houses on your road?" VERY DRY, AND VERY FUNNY. OF COURSE YOU WOULD ONLY ACTION THIS I GUESS, WHEN YOU WIN THE LOTTERY!! HA HA, RUSS ANDREWS WOULD LOVE YOU !!!
