As requested by Chris, here are my impressions of the Sangreal speakers...

They are broadband, single 10" driver, speakers with open box, see picture:

They have 96 db sensitivity, so I started using them with a 30 watts per channel, (class T), TEAC DVD receiver, tweaked by Schallwand, mostly vibration dampening, using a balanced transformer from ESE Labs, filtering input current...

The midrange/highs where very good, no grain, no peaks, like many fullrange drivers have, no harshness whatsoever, very good balance, wide and deep stage, very well focused, no instruments wondering around depending on frequency played, of course no ressonances, the box is open...

As I was used to 2 REL Strata III subwoofers, it didnt take long for me to add a subwoofer, a B&W PV1, believe it or not, it integrates very well, it also doesnt ressonate, as the box is spherical, and it goes very deep, with enough energy for my room...

Watching some music DVDs I realized sometimes I could see cymbals beeing brushed without hearing it, so I also got a pair of Tannoy ST50 supertweeters, in the end I had to set the xover to 18 khz, otherwise I would hear too much treble, wich shows the speakers go higher than I though...

I was very happy with the combination, but I have to admit the TEAC doesnt have much glamour, also Scallwand recomends strongly tubes, so I decided to give them a try, the TEAC will emigrate to Africa, to one of my sons...

I will open another topic about the Cayin...

    I think the size is 120*60*45cm :)

The MB10 appears to be a 10" (25cm) broadband driver with whizzer cone.

    Folks,

Looking at the pictures, the enclosure seems to borrow from keith Aschenbrenners (Auditorium 23) latest design for the Phy HP 8", the SoloVox, but scaled up, the driver appears on superficial inspection a Ciare CH250, or related (possibly modified).

It would be quite easy to make ones own.

Wich came first, the Solovox or the Sangreal... ;)

I dont really care, but the open box works very well, no box ressonances, huge 3d stage, dont need surround speakers... :JPS:

As for building your own, Schallwand has strong recomendations about that, of course they say it is impossible to duplicate them, special wood, many parts, etc... :p

On the other hand, 1.500 euros for the pair is quite reasonable, at least comparing with other manufacturers, and they are made in Germany... :MILD:

    I love chocolat... :p

But the Schallwand/Solovox design emulates a larger panel, so you get deeper bass, they say...

The Solovox are beautiful, but many times more expensive than mine... ;)

    Hi,

You can't have that particular one though, she's all mine.... :elephant:

Hmm, cannot really say. My panels have the right size for the driver used, they give support down to the fundamental resonsnce (50Hz). Below that not much happens, no matter how big you make the pannel.... ;)

The guy behind Schallwand is a well-known copycat who hasn't had an original idea in his life. He makes a lot of misleading statements. For example, he sold a similar design to Keith Aschenbrenner's Solovox some time back on ebay, claiming to have made it three years earlier in Spain (and thus, not a copy). When an acquaintance of mine went to look at the speaker, it was very, very obviously new.

I'm not saying the speakers sound bad, I haven't heard them, but I wouldn't buy from this guy on principle.

The broadband community over here in Germany is reasonably close-knit, and the guy has a reputation. I'm pretty sure it's a deserved one.

That's quite okay, like I said, I'm not knocking their sound as I haven't heard them.

Another example of a great speaker using Phy, like the Solovox...

Made by Musical Affairs here in The Netherlands. They sound pretty special...

    Hi,

You mean a (more or less) copy of another Keith Aschenbrenner/A23 design, the Rondo.

Copies of good things, could be good too, particularly if they cost a lot less... :student:

My Cayin is also a copy of the McIntosh MC275 sound, they say, so what... :p

Actually there are very few original pieces of hifi nowadays... :newbie:

Welcome back Lowrider. I've never heard a MC275 sounding harsh, so maybe not. But the system sure looks funky.

Just remmbered: the first who extolled the virtues of that particular Teac receiver, to my knowledge, was another German company, Stereofone. They even used it to demo their stuff at the Munich show 2005.
