Hi. I was wondering if you lot would be kind enough to give me some suggestions..

I'm looking to put together a cheap second system, planning on a some kind of CD/DVD to be used as a transport into a Behringer DEQ2496 or SRC2496, into a Super T-Amp (this is the point of the system actually - I want to see what the fuss is about) or maybe the NVA AP10 (again interested to see what you get in terms of bang for the buck.)

Speakers is where I run out of ideas, I want to spend as little as possible, but still get something that is easy to drive and a good match for the two amps mentioned above and has good price/performance. (I have plenty of ideas for 4k speakers for my main system :) !!) I am happy to go second hand or new for the speakers.

My aim is to see what performance I can get for as little outlay as possible.

    Thanks in advance.

There's a teac system which is an amp, cd player, dab radio, plays mp3, etc and even has a USB for memory stick etc!

    just add some speakers...

    damn sensible..

The problem with plug and Play is that there isn't any fun for the tinkerer

I use the AP10 with a pair of JPW ML110 I got on ebay for £25. They really sing. I think JPW's especially after Guy Sargeant's ears got involved are very underated.

I have owned a Super-T and have built a chip amp from a premium kit but I prefer the NVA AP10 to both.

I use an AP10 with Arcaydis AK1 bookshelf speakers connected up with NVA LS1 speaker cable. For the source I have a modified Arcam Alpha 5+ connected with Zanesh Silver IC.

I have yet to be convinced by a cheap transport to a quality DAC. I have owned a few DACs over the years and my experience has always been that the better the transport, the better the sound from the DAC.

Agreed. Coincidentally I've got a pair in my office, from ebay for £25.

15 - 20 years ago I had a pair of JPW P2's (I think). Small 2 way sealed box standmounters, that I thought were terrific. They still serve in my Dads system. Probably £20 on ebay now.

The current high bidder "tankertop" is a character. I am not sure if he is a "reseller" or just an excessive enthusiast with a big garage. He has bought a couple of my second hand offers in the past.

Look at his feedback - a Thorens TD150 for £27!!!!!!!

He gets some bloody good bargains.

There are good buys to be had on fleabay if you avoid the collectables. My office system is quite good fun. An old Sansui Receiver (£30) and pair of 10" Tannoy DC200s (£70). The CDP is my Dad's old Marantz CD63 and the deck is my old MIchell Focus One. But the core of it was £100 on eBay and it makes a nice noise.

Hey, are you still after some JBL's then?

I've all but given up looking for my little bit of JBL audio history, that pair on eBay will sell for a load of dosh I reckon - good pictures, genuine seller, etc, etc

The second hand JBL market is too 'hot' for me.

    They've gotta be 12's man.

No JBL owner would be seen dead with only 10's!!! :drum:

Actually, I just noticed he's only allowing for local pick-up, maybe they will go cheapish after all.
