I'm in the process of assembling a second system for a new dining room extension. Having pored over eBay and various forums I'm considering (secondhand) Cyrus1/2 amp plus an Arcam Alpha 7SE CD. Comments on this welcome.

For aesthetic reasons I'd prefer floorstanding speakers. Anyone got any thoughts on what might work well with the above combo? Budget wise wouldn't want to go above £150 tops.

    Thanks in advance.

Why not go for something more interesting & unusual for a 2nd system? Have a bit of fun!!

I've just bought on eBay a pair of Cabasse iO spherical/co-axial speakers for my planned 2nd system. They cost £150 delivered - I should get them in a few days.

And, yes, that means your plans for Arcam & Cyrus - - would get the chop too ;)

the 7se is not the greatest cdp ..sounds dull and lifeless compared to the stock A5 ...the 8 and 9 are slightly better...

As to floorstanders .....quad 22's or the kef refference ?

Nice, but no output below 150 Hz. You really need a woofer for those, which would put them above the stated budget for batters2.

Well, yes - but I was just giving that as an example of a more interesting route to take, rather than "just another" set of standard hifi boxes ....

(& I do plan to use them with a small sub)
