    hifi for sale is kak!!

loot is going downhill and they are not doing any favours making the online ads appear after 7 days now. I think ebay has killed loot.

I never buy loot or even look at it now. Ebay is just so much saver if you can't collect.

so where is the best place to sell? Up to now I've been a buyer, and have bought successfully s/h from AVForums, AVTalk & hiforsale. On all but two occasions I've visited to collect - on both occasions I've had them posted there has been some hassle, as a cd player arrived not working (it did once it had settled) and an AVamp took a long time coming. My visits were tacked on to work travel, and I found the people pleasant and the kit to be in good working order - I returned with what I regarded as well earned 'trophies'.

but now I need to sell. I managed to pass on various bits of kit to family and friends, but now have two sets of specialist kit - Meridian 200/203 & 600/602 - that ought to go to good homes now I've settled on the AudioSynthesis combo. I tried here but no interest shown, so now I'm trying AVForums.

And now you give Loot and hififorsale the thumbs down. Is e-bay worth trying? not done that before.

thanks. it seems to be a US site, how costly is shipping?

I see that the prices are OK, even tho the $ is low at the mo.
    http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?dgtlconv&1074909348
has the Meridian 606 at $380, which is about £214 (more than the £150 ono I am looking for)
    and
    http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?dgtlplay&1075603715
has the 200/203 combo at $550, ie £310 (less that the £400 ono, but so it goes...)

I'll give it a few more days then consider Audigon is no takers this side of the pond.

    thanks again

I recently sold a Naim CDS2 and XPS via Ebay. I put a reserve on it and offered to post but made it clear that I would prefer the buyer to collect and hear it before taking it on.

The buyer lived 150 miles away and we met halfway at a motorway service station and everything went smoothly.

I think Ebay is quite good.

    Regards

    Mick

The reason hifi for sale has slowed down (imho) is people (the same bunch who trawl it), arn't buying at the moment, people seemed to be desperate to sell, before xmas, so how much more are they going to need the money after the credit cards have been bent over the festive period, it's a buyer's market, and they aint buying here, or just aint got the cash, loot full of london boys :D more exposure on AVF due to the larger number of members law of averages etc.
However, if you price it fairly it will sell I feel . Wm

I sold the Jukebox a couple of years ago. Actually Jukeboxes offer good value for the sound they make.

A good CD playing box in the Wurlitzer 1015 style (big neon arched lit up curves) made by a quality company such as OMT can be bought for about £2000.00 and it has a brilliant sound. It will hold, I think 400 CD's which gives you say 5500 tracks. They are disigned to be played in pubs, so they are deadly reliable.

I sold my 1959 AMI J200 for £2000 and it sounded fine with a modern amp and 15" speaker.

The guy trusted me because I had repeatedly made it clear I was prepared to delay the sale until he had the opportunity of coming down and listening before he parted with his cash.

    Regards

    Mick

That 7 day thing has IMHO totally killed Loot. It used to be really good, especially as it was dead easy to bypass the 'early bird' thing and jump straight to a new ad without paying! (they have tightened this up now so you can't anymore).

I have found that wanted ads on hififorsale work – I managed to land a few Nait 2s a while back that I pretty much doubled my cash on! Pretty much everything I have placed a wanted ad for eventually appeared. pfm works pretty well for either buying and selling too.

eBay is great for selling, though less good for buying as stuff does tend to go for a premium. I regularly sell records there – I currently have a stack of about 30 waiting in Turbo Lister to go up once it picks up again after the holidays.

    Tony.

I use Ebay a lot, both for buying and selling, and I've not had any problems. I've bought all sorts of stuff; hifi, motorbike bits, mtb stuff, trainers.... and picked up loads of bargains. I love it. ;)

Check out the buyers/sellers rating and if the sale involves quite a bit of cash then email them and get to know them prior to taking the plunge.
