I know that we got quite involved in the Tsunami disaster and that the general feeling over Katrina was that they didn't really need our money. However, surely we should take out our credit cards and do what we can for the victims of this latest devastation. The boys at Pickled Politics have a list of international charities who will do a good job of distributing the money and they also tell you who to avoid - organisations which are likely to divert the money into arms purchases or terrorism. It's starting to seem very much as if disasters like this are happening more and more regularly, so it's good to know that the international community have learnt some lessons from the Tsunami aid debacle. Chiefly, no one this time is pretending that the UN are capable of any role whatsoever in the short term aid effort. Sorry for bringing up politics over this tragedy but some of you will recall that I was absolutely furious with the bollocks and posturing that went on last time. Anyway, anyone who's been watching the news won't need me to tell them that help is needed. Hopefully, this post's reference to the Pickled Politics blog will ensure that the money is well spent. Regards Steve M
