Not sure how it's got in there, as I've only changed the lens a couple of times with care.

Any tips on how best to go about it? It's only a single bit of fluff.

    A blower bulb.

    Do NOT use the following:

    wet "sensor swabs"
    Compressed air line or can
    Your breath (nothing personal...)
    Any sort of brush

    Thanks. Blower bulb it is.

Seems to have removed the dust spec, but looks like there's a very slight mark left. Doesn't seem to be showing up in any test shots so far.

Somewhat confused how it got there. I've only used the D80 with the lens I purchased with it apart from trying it with one other lens once a while back. And that's the first time I've so much as looked at mirror lock up. The spec only just seems to have appeared though.

    Odd.

It could have come from some of the damping/light absorbing materials in/around the mirror box, or just be something residual from manufacture. These things aren't made in cleanrooms.

Through time you'll learn to love that spec!! I've been through two D70's with the same trouble and there seems to be little one can do about it.
