Any suggestions?? I'm using 34SP as server on my site. I can access without problem from work. I can access any other site from home in the evening without problem but I cannot access MY site from home in the evening except on rare occasions. 34SP keep trying to blame everything but themselves. Not a happy bunny here.

It could be a DNS issue with your ISP. Are you using a router? You could try resetting the router. I have never had any problems at all with 34SP.

It does sound like a DNS issue. What's the site? Can you access it by ip address?

Followed AT's advice, reset the router and it seems to have cured the problem. Kudos AT. (why couldn't 34SP have suggested that?)

FWIW, site is www.hawksbc.co.uk. Any comments gratefully received but be gentle I'm a bit of a novice

    Cheers and many thanks AT

Jeff, the site looks fine. Where possible mabye remove the evidence of table layouts, and any reference to how the site should be viewed.
Other than that I am about 3 miles behind you so well done!

    Thanks 4 the feedback Gary.

Isaac/AT, is it possible for you to explain briefly what might have been behind a DNS issue? In case I'm likely to come up against it again. Also I'm curious to know.

    Thanks
    Jeff

I've had similar problems before that have been resolved by a router reset. Sometimes, after being up for a long time, routers can get their panties in a bunch and get their DNS routing corrupted. No single "cause" that I know of other than bugs in the router firmware.

Its been a while since I studied this so its not fresh in my memory anymore. I will explain from the start so sorry if any of this sounds patronising.

DNS is the Domain Name Server, it is effectivly a database of IP addresses for each domain name, your local router has one of these. Everytime you visit a site the router learns the IP address and stores it. What seems to happen with cheaper domsetic routers is that occasional if the IP for a domian has changed the router fails to relearn it. If you switch the router off then this database is wiped clearn so has to relearn all the IPs again thus solving the problem.

Some times randomly sites don't work and I just switch the router off and on again, it solves the problem.

I am just guessing that is would be the case. I may be wrong.

Apart from the table suggestion, always make sure you use ALT tags on the graphics so people who cannot see graphics for what ever reason understands what that image is.

Its a good effort for a novice. :)

Thanks AT, funnily enough I was reading up about alt tags on the tube this morning, so I'll probably be adding them in at some stage.

Michael, Good to know I'm not alone :D
