Next, the new album by the boyos at sevendust is pretty good. I heard it cause I am an intern at UMVD and i didn't know what to think. I am not a big numetal fan but it seems they can't be called numetal anymore, tracks on their website, tell me if you disagree or agree or whatever www.sevendust.info

    Another dig at ProTools!
Don't see what it's done wrong - all it is is a complete sound mixing solution. And it's about the best - like Avid for picture editing. Believe me, I spent lots of time looking into it before spending about £2m on it.. Just cos someone produces ****e with it doesn't mean the gear's ****e!
And BTW, I've got a Sevendust album - OK, but not interesting enough for my tastes...

I wasn't having a dig at pro tools I was having a dig at the bands that can't play and have to have every note they play cut up and quantized in pro tools. Unfortunately seems to go hand in hand with nu metal. Some friends of mine did a nu metal album session, they can obviously play being musicians for hire, but the producer still insisted it had to go through pro tools and be quantized thus sucking all soul from the music. Another thing that seems to go hand in hand with nu metal.

I thought they did that with autotune?

There's a similar pitch-shift device on ProTools should you want it...
It used to be almost impossible in the old days, as making the sound higher shortened the time it took and vice versa, meaning you'd have to edit in the middle of a sound..
    I'd call it cheating!
And I still blame Cher, especially as she must be half machine by now.

I have heard it used creatively before but for the most part once its done its done, its quite an obvious effect. But then autotune/pitchshift in general are quite obvious effects, I saw part of the live rig for one of the spice girls (iirc- pretty sure it was them) later tours in a magazine, a full rack of autotune boxes hidden behind compression and feedback supresssors.:)

Well not "Ginger" Spice, she was singing to a completely different tune all the time, both on and off stage.
