Anyone got any experience of the Shanling cd player? Ian.
Ducks, not as good as you've been lead to believe, believe it or not it's pretty hard at the upper end of the spectrum, shame really it's looks cool, had one in a while back for a simple upgrade.Wm
Hi mate. Your just down the road from me (MK). Northwood Audio I think stock it - I believe they are in Hemel ? leighton Buzzard or thereabouts. Shouldnt be too far to go for a gander. Personally, heard great things from a lot of people, but on the otherhand I know WM finds it a bit 'soft sounding' I think he said... One mans meat is another mans gravy, give it a listen and tell us what ya thought! Chris
You do have to try the stuff for yourself though no matter what we all say/feel S & N,as we are all different Interestingly, the chap I purchased my new Wadia from, was looking for a lesser investiment purchase to try and fill the shoes of the out going player, Nic at the Emporium lent him one on a weeks trial, the chap (Terry) sent it back after 2 days most unimpressed, he uses a decent valve intergrated papworth? and some big Audio note speakers, this did some what surprise me, but thats just one example, you really need to audition one for yourself though, in the US, they are going for as little as $750. But does look groovy anbd cool at night with the lights off
Thanks Guys. Chris, Northwood Audio (in Aylesbury) is no more. They have become Noteworthy Audio, still in Aylesbury. More or less the same guys running it. I know them pretty well, which is why I am reluctant to ask them for a demo. I won't be buying one from them you see. I have found a source for import that means I can get one new, delivered for £800. (with of course the associated risks). I've read some good reviews, but I always take them with a pinch of salt. I was just wandering if anyone had any opinions really. Cheers. Ian.
Smileandnod, thanks for the intro in here I'm very happy with my change from Cyrus CAD3/PSXR to Shanling CDT-100 (You know this already) but just for the benefit of others. cu back at cyrusunofficial
Now you have told everyone your '£800 Shanling' secrate I expect to see second-hand ones in the buy/sell section for £450 soon!!
You can buy the SACD version pretty much anywhere in Asia for not much more (£900). I saw one in Taipei last month - but the exchange rate is favourable at the moment. I think importing from Singapore is the safest method (and only slightly more expensive) - they have a thriving hifi community = good level of competition between shops, and of course SPore operates at UK mains voltages.
