Right, this for all those a/v boys and couch potatoes
time for a new viewing implement (internal rearranging of living quaters), basically I'm looking for a LCD TV over 25", must have component & scart, possibly HDMI and be small in size not all that speaker marlarky round the outside, tuner would be nice but not essential. would prefer without sound, but if it has it so be it.
Any ideas from the T3 & GQ squad? cheers Wm

That one doesn't have very good contrast. Only 350:1 :(

Why not a 32" plasma screen? Loads more choice and IMO much better quality than LCD...and you don't have to look at them dead straight on do get a good picture. LCD screens generally have poor contrast, are pricier than the equivalent plasma and have a limited viewing angle (I don't care if the mfr says 170deg viewing angle, anything more than about 20deg off centre line looks pants).

If you were burned by your previous plasma experience then take another look - the image quality has come on hugely since then (allthough they still can't touch a decent CRT).

Loewe LCDs look gorgeous, they have the option of a built-in HD recorder... :MILD:

    John,

Try the Blue LEDs you will be surprised :)
Mike its a space thing, only seen one plasma I like, and its too big and I don't want to spend that much on a screen.
Haven't seen a decent 32" plasma yet, plus I don't need half a house taking up my listening space.
You need at least 500:1 on contrast, I've seen a 600:1 very nice, 176 deg veiwing angle too and the Blue light work mirciales with it, but I'm open to suggestions. Wm

Bright LEDs on the front panel of TVs (or any type of screen) are a really annoying distraction. I have the red power LED on my Toshiba TV covered with a blob of Blu-tak :)

I think it's something like 4500:1 or similar so, way better than any other form of display except perhaps a decent CRT projector in a darkened room.

Tony we have just purchased the 26" JVC lcd (telly not important and was taking up too much space, this went on the wall) looks stunning speaker is a small strip along the bottom, IMHO one of the best looking LCD's out there, picture quality with LCD is not up to Cathode ray tubes yet, but from seating position you don't really notice

Here is one here RSP £2500 although can be bought for circa £1500 on net.

    http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_15073.html for example

Oh and same viewable size as 28" flat screen cathode ray, and no probs with viewing angle or contrast, think they have that sorted now.

Woofie, as far the CRT standard goes (this from a man who does it for a living) there is NO set standard, all this contrast ratio has come about since plasma's as they can't do blacks (anywhere near as well as crt), so punters feel better with a point of reference, although, the new Pioneer 50" thing does has a passable stab at blacks, (especialy with power mods on it).
    Hope that helps :)

    Thanks,
I have been wondering how good are the present plasma, LCD and projectors compare to good old CRT. 2 years ago when I look they are still behind in real performance and cost a lot more for what you get. No built in tuner, usable connections and even the mounting system are extra. Seems things are getting better. As long as man sleep in the same house as woman flat screen is the way to go. My general observation is that given a chance man like their toys to be big, black and loud. Performance is everything even if that involve taking over the whole living room. :D

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Cynical points Woofie (but with more than a hint of truth ;) ) I have rather a good crt at present.
However, I wish to 'loose' the big box, and make it less of a focal point, also enhancing 2 channel performance, by not having a 'barn in the way of the sound'

Well finialy I choose a unit. After waiting a couple of weeks for sourcing it turned up Last weekend. Happy bunny is Wm, quality picture without question, very natural, fab colour seperation and texture, not as much depth as a plamsa though, however its better than all the simliary priced Plamsa's I viewed.
I accquired a Toshiba 32 WL36P, not only do I have my room back, with a super picture, but also enhanced 2 channel due to a barn not being in the way :)
If you are concidering an LCD TV, do audition one, it will surprise you :)

Congratulations, I want one too... :green:

Did you compare it with Philips, I watched one the other day and loved the colours and blacks, way better then Sharp...

LCD or retroTV DLPs (particullarly the SIM2) are my choices now, less power consumption is quite importan as I feed all from the same socket, more juice left for hifi...

I ordered a male IEC from RA to use another VDH PC on my CRT, getting ready for the flat screen... ;)
