    I don't think schools should be teaching 'where Manchester is' but they should be teaching 'why Manchester is' and if you don't pick up the 'where' then you weren't paying attention. Similarly for Stoke and the 'potteries'.

    erm when i went to skool geography was all about ox bow lakes,crevases and bagshot sand and gravel.

    Same here but I think they should still teach you where things are. Its only like 3-4 lessons worth at the most. I am not sugesting it should be a major part of it.

    A big part of my GCSE was about why Manchester is so to speak. The industrial revolution, the penines, the climate, the amount of rain powering spinning wheels etc.
