    Go on ... confess :JPS:

Currently lisetning to Dire Straits, by Dire Straits - picked up yesterday in the charity shop for a quid. I used to have this on tape when I was about 14 and loved it, but lost interest in the band after Brothers in Arms came out and they bored me to tears (my mate Stan actually fell asleep during one of there Wembley Concerts for that album) and never really listened to them since.

Its reminded me why I liked them in the first place. Utterly astonishing as a recording too.

I suspect Brothers in Arms would still bore me to tears though.

Hard to admit to because admitting to liking anything by these boys is tantamount to admitting advancing middle age

I utterly loathe Sting. Absolutely detest his sanctimonious, pseudo mystic, millionaire smug jazz-lite muzak (am I making my point here ?). BUT.

Regatta De Blanc. First LP I ever owned (crimbo 1979). Fantastic. Great songs, sparse playing, dry production. A real '3 guys in a room' feel. High points: the bit where the kickdrum comes in on Bring On The Night and Andy Summers' 3 note solo....the opera singer tape bleed on 'Does Everyone Stare....

Where did it all go wrong ? As Stewart Copeland inadvertantly puts it 'the other ones are complete bulls**t'..

Sting!! Blimey ... I'm sort of glad that's one I don't have to admit. Don't tell Auntie though, she's still got her complete collection of Police Official Fanclub magazines  Always thought Copeland was cool though.

Nowt wrong with the Beasties. Anyone who can make videos as funny as theirs deserve respect :)

I've got a copy of Hell Freezes Over by the Eagles, it's a simply vinyl pressing and is simply stunning

You can definitely add Outlandos d’Amour to that as if anything it is even better. Sting only gave clues as to future twatosity on the final two Police albums, the first two are damn good and the third is well worth having too.

Hmm...lot of Sting slagging going on here! I listened to 'Nothing Like The Sun' the other day and thats quite a nice album. Lazarus Heart and Fragile are really good tunes!
I know he's out of the Bono mould of political musicians which can cause slight vomiting but he's made some decent music and seems like a nice enough bloke to me.

Another Eagles fan here! I've got most of their albums on CD and agree that the Simply Vinyl pressing of Hell Freezes over is excellent. The DVD video is pretty good too!

I came across a rather pleasant female vocal song on a sampler CD given out by a speaker manufacturer. Played it a few times, thought I might have to look this one up with a view to buying it.

What should it turn out to be? The Peter Malick Group featuring Norah Jones... Hand me my samurai sword...

    Much better visuals :)

Dire Straits' "Dire Straits" (and of course "Communique/Making Movies/Love Over Gold") are excellent - "Brothers in arms" is boring but has its moments.

I confess to owning "On every street" as well, but we won't mention "On the ****e" - it's total crud of the highest order.

I have a fair bit of Elton John and Status Quo in my collection - does this count? These are amongst a multitude of similarly unhip artists, although fashion is for ****ing idiots so who cares.

I too have some (earlier!) Elton John, and some of the Status Quo stuff (especially the psychadelic stuff) is fantastic :)

I was thinking, too - what about Andrew Lloyd Webber as a shockingly good artist? Some of the stuff from Jesus Christ Superstar is fantastic in my opinion (particularly Carl Anderson as Judas from the movie OST, and Ian Gillan as Jesus from the stage show recording although the movie chap was ace too), and I'm sure I've liked some of the bits of the original cast recording of Evita, too.

Oh dear. Really? I fear that Andrew Lloyd Webber may be just the tip of a pretty big iceberg.

Ooh do tell. I can see you need to get it off your chest.

We can play uncool music poker. I'll see your Lloyd Webber with an ELO and raise it with a Tammy Wynnette (very good, but very uncool I'd say :) )

I'll see you with Sade, and raise you a Gloria Estefan and a Madonna.
