Does anyone here have experience of such things?

I wonder whether I would gain anything by retrofitting a new clock to my Rega Planet 2000 cd player. Also, are there other mods I could make to improve the sound quality?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to float this but it's worth a try. I'd better head off to diyAudio to see what they say.

If you want to email me I'm in the process of putting together a documnet for my Denon dcd920 and an Arcam5, I can let you have a copy.

Most of the tweaks are generic.

I got big gains with a Net Audio miniclock, but on a penny for penny gain there are other tweaks that rival it.

Do you have a schematic for the rega ?

Yes is the reply....significant gains are here.... depending on the type of clk of course.

John, how do you rate the different clocks?

    Cheers

Thats a bit of a difficult one....

IMHO... the way the clock generates it's signal is important. Certain clks use a little canned module... internally this module is virtually identical to the original clk circuit used in almost every CDP/CDT. I have cut one open and contacted the OEM and they have confirmed this.

Certain other clks use a discrete oscillator... IMHO this is better coz less jitter is produced....

Certain other clks use a discrete oscillator but in a different configuration... IMHO this is also better coz of jitter/phase noise.

I cannot point out which is better coz some clks will work better than others if fitted in the same player and its up to the individual punter to decide which is better for him. Everybody has differing opinions which is better..for whatever reason.. great!!.... many people like the results that clks bring... but some don't.... when I was with T.R. I did have to remove the clk coz the punter did not like the result.....only a few though!!

Look for a clk with a well designed discrete oscillator.... Look for a well designed PCB layout.... make sure it has onboard fast regulators.... make sure you can upgrade with a separate fast clk supply at a later date..(you will want to!!) and most of the clk suppliers will have a money back if not satisfied G/tee so try em all....:D

    Thanks JC

I am however, a little closer, and yet equally far away!

Go on, nail your nuts to the post and reccomend a couple of evergreen clocks. :) which ones meet your criteria above for not too much cash? you owe it to your zerogain buddies to share your findings!

    In no particular order...

Audiocon....S-clk2... yeah I know its a load a money but it probably incorporates some of the previous (quality) design:D

Net audio clk is well worth a go....

Kwak clk is a good one to try also....

Trichord is a go-er but with the never connected PSU...

    LC audio.....interesting....

    Owwwwooo....the pain:D :D :D

Now i gorra get the nails out....

Analog Digital Enhancer - any good?

On the subject of improving a cdp, has anyone come across the ADE-24 Analog Digital Enhancer from Margules Audio?

I posted this question on the TT v CD thread but it got lost in all the excitement.
