Cheers Tone. Fitting an IEC socket is a no-brainer, definitely going to do that...hmmm, looks like another Eupen order coming up :D (the Eupen on my Marantz has a figure of eight plug - I could change the plug I guess but I might as well use it on my DVD recorder  )

Clock 4 and Never Connect, next obvious ones but they are a bit pricey...I think I'll leave the mods at that for the time being.

Will have to do a proper "photographic" documentation of the mods as I did with the Marantz...nothing happening until mid Sept though as going on hols next week and then London for 2 weeks again :(

timpy - care to elaborate on the changes? Has WMs "plastic surgery" transformed Pauline Quirke into Penelope Cruz ? :D

    Michael.

Some Charlie Uniform November Tango bought my Rover... :(

Still anyway, where was I.......ah the Teac, well I'm pleased to account that it still works :)D:D) and that it is much improved in terms of focus, timing and detail retrieval. It all sounds very good even at very low volumes as well now, whereas before it managed even less interesting than completely uninteresting at low levels.

The Never Connect and Clock 4 have changed the thing into something that can even break out into a run it seems, and bass definition (it's truly weakest point previously) is now rather good even by quite high standards. Based on this ones performance, they are not a luxury, they are essential to this player it seems. I think it could get better as well, but there's some definate Wadia qualities coming through now in terms of "organic-ness" and more importantly (and to me interestingly) increased expressiveness. Timing and directness is my bag though, and fortunately there's a big improvement there too. Overall, it's really rather good now, better than the previous transport I was using as an all rounder (Alpha 8 cdp), and much moe natural sounding. Faster or as fast? the jury's still out, but it certainly isn't obviously slow any more.

Speaking of accounts, any further mods are being suspended until I've had a little time to enjoy these. Shortly I'm hoping to have a very special digital interconnect to play with as well, and Trichord 500VA jobbie are on the list before I can let WM get gloved up again. These will probably come over the next couple of months, so hopefully Michaelab, by the time you get to play with yours, we may have more information to offer.

WM's now desperatly stalking the corridors looking for something else to butcher :)D:D:D ) / tweak / play with....so it's a pity that Rover never came off :p

Many thanks Tone for delving into the electrickery bits and bolting the stuff in, much appreciated.

    Cheers

Henry 1 Trick female IEC £9 (maplins do them for £1.49), a sheet of Dynamatt light £15 approx
Some Omiga audio Power cable .5m (single wire run) £20
A clock 4 £149 AND a Never-connected Psu £175, if you want to replace all those 34 caps on the digital board with decent ones about another £28.
Copper sheets from the scrapy (5mm) £12
heat shrink about £1.80, No op-amps as this is a transport.
plus about 4 or so hours of time.
Is it worth the outlay, only timpy can tell you that, but It has transformed the Teac (my view only), given it the bits that's missing and enhanced the Teac specialities, and if Tim decides he doesn't want to keep the Teac, I can remove the clock and psu and fit it in another player no probs, may yet change the clock output too  WM

    Oh right, of course. :)

As always, cars never feature very highly in my thoughts, so explains my lack of association there. :)

The convention is that from the wall you go to Three pin plug, cable, then the male IEC and female IEC in the equipment. This prevents any exposed live metal !

Henry, must be the heat mate :D quite right, male IEC, these are a bit different as they 'help' in locking the female onto the pins, plus a spot of rare metal plating and deep freezing. WM

Err...because female sockets are what you get on the back of boxes and male plugs are what you get on the end of cables. I used to get confused by this aswell, afterall, a female socket has the three, rather "male" prongs in it :D and in computer connectors (RS232 etc) sockets/plugs with the pins are called male. Depends which bit you regard as the male organ and which the female :D I think, in the case of an IEC join, a male plug (with 3 holes in it) rather substantially, ahem, penetrates the female socket :)

Tone - I think I know the trick IEC sockets you're on about. ;) For weird reason, I've got a 2 pin female socket on the back of my Accuphase which is labelled a/c out - it's a bit smaller than an IEC but if I could remove this and install an IEC socket instead of having to drill the case.

Zanash - Hope the heat isn't affecting you too much this afternoon, just be careful when you pick the male pins on that IEC mains lead that's plugged into that wall there... :)

Micheal, well I think you can see how I think about male/female IECs. I think of the one on the back of the kit as male because it has sticky out prongs, whereas the one on the end of the mains lead is female because it has the holes. That's how I always thought it was, no? :)

im getting confuzed so ive rumaged through a few catolouges, the thingy on the end of the flex is called a socket ,its got holes in it, some people refer to them as HOT as they may be live and the inlet on equipment is a (chassis mounting) plug or COLD as theres no power on them, hot and cold can get confusing though as theres varies tempreture ratings of these plugs/sockets.

    i always thought
male = plug = sticky out,
female = socket = sticky in.

also males are not 'hot' as that can lead to some painful goings on.

    cheers
