    Hi all,
I dont need a pre amp or any input selector just some thing to put between my CD player and my 300B mono blocs to give me a volume control. My speakers are very sensitive and when connected directly to the amps are wayway ( I mean WAY!! ) too loud. A pot in a box with input and output. I know there are the passive pre`s but can it be simpler ?
    Regards
    Tony

I use one of these for volume control in one of my systems. There are other cheaper pots. Just get a small aluminium box from Maplins, 2 pairs of RCA sockets and some cable should be all you need.

I think that depends on the input impedence of the power amp. I tried a passive pre with 200k which didn't work too well with my amp and I just happen to have the 50k DACT lying around, so I tried it and liked it:D.

For something cheaper to play with just to see how you get on why not an Alps pot.
Currently using a 100k between PC via a DAC into a Cyrus power amp.

    A choice of pots here:hificollective

Have sent an email to "George" about this but no reply yet. Is there any more info out there on the web other than those 64 pages! some wiring details or parts info, its the matching of the parts that seems to be the hard part, so I may just do a simple attenuated pot for now, but all ideas welcome.
    Regards
    Tony

Think there's very little info on web - George hasn't got a website or anything. Several folks on the thread have built their own - matching is the tedious bit. Haven't compared it a simple attenuated pot. Good luck with search.

I think it would be a shame not to have a source selector.

One day you might want a radio, or to put the dvd player through the hifi or something.

    Hi Titian,

I agree, they are great, but why 2? Are they mono?

I bought my stereo version from Lee to use with Ian's Leak (while it was on loan to me). When Ian took his amp back the DACT replaced the Dale Vishay attenuator in my Glasshouse pre in my second system. It was a big improvement IMV.
