My god I am no petrol head it has to be said. But if all a car has to offer a man for a hard on is how its boot opens, then, well, perhaps you all need to re-adjust what the good things in life are.

Looking closer at it...its quite innovative I agree.

I'm not sure as its really necessary to complicate the design though.

Just something else to go wrong 5/10 years down the line?

    Isn't progress a wonderful thing??

I'm just hoping they make an estate version, great cars Skodas. 2 of them in 6 years, 100,000 miles, and only a lightbulb on one, and a clutch under warranty on the other have been needed.

I don't quite think of cars in that way Gary but each to their own:).

Don't get be wrong, the tailgate (or the car for that matter) doesn't get the pulse racing but it is a very practical design that hopefully will be copied by some of the other manufacturers. A couple of years ago, I was impressed by the build quality of an Octavia and the way it drove and could not criticise it. If it had a VW badge would your opinion be any different?

Dev, maybe I've been driving vans too long but whats the advantage over this design to one piece tail gate.....as in hatchback vectras, mondeos etc.

Is it so important not to have to lift up that upper part?

They have clearly gone to some lentgh in the design.....the usefulness is a bit lost on me?

I guess I'm thinking that most of the time we are just loading small loads like carrier bags in the boot, and opening a heavy tailgate could be a nuisance, so just open the lighter smaller lid. However when you need it the full tailgate is there.

It's not an original design, a number of Chelsea tractors have a variation of this feature. With them, the small glass panel opens separately from the whole tailgate.

Wasn't this done in the early 70s with the Rangies??

Dev you seem to have mis-interpreted what I said. I have nothing against skoda, but that car looks deeply boring and its main feature seems to be tail gate.

I had a skoda felicio for a while, it was a tank and not very nice to drive.

Sorry Gary, yes I did mis-interpret you. I quite like it. I think it has conservative styling rather than boring;).
