Folks - been looking for a used Sony SCD-1 and have found one locally at a very good price, been to see it and it sounds just fine but the catch is there is a very small scratch on the front panel which also just catches the perspex on the display panel.

Its not immediately noticeable when you first see the machine but when you do notice it, it stays noticed :(

Any views on what this sort of mark does to a machine's value?

surely if the damage is only cosmetic then the music making properties remain. if you are buying this for it's technical brilliance and not how nice it looks then it's theoretically a no brainer. i personally would still have it as pride of ownership based on how hifi looks over how it sounds is somewhat vain IMO. i do understand your dilemma, however. plastic polish should buff out the perspex scratch, if that's any help.
