Try Focal-JM Lab

Focal Electra 906's will fit your needs.  They have just been replaced by the 1007 model, so you should be able to pick up a pair cheaply.  You might even get a 907Be, with a berillium tweeter instead of titanium.

Bass is not outstanding, but for vocal, jazz or classical they are great.  The reflex port faces forward, so you can use them close to a wall without boominess, and in my room they sound better with the grilles on (which pleases my wife).
