have you tried that bacteria killing air freshener?

    failing that :
rub a magic tree all over the seats and pour aftershave on the carpets.:D

febreeze works wonders for the smell of damp, muddy cyclist which is pretty similar to dog ming. get some water proof seat covers - 20 quid for 2 from halfords then just bung them in the wash to fix the honk.
be careful of mixing smells though - i got a new air freshner in my car (vanilla) and ended up with a car that smelled like a mud cheesecake for a few days. oddly tasty yet revolting at the same time.

    Hi John,

This is pretty much the only reason why I currently have two cars. A ****ty old smelly one for me to go to work in and take the dog down to the Forest/Beach and another for 'sunday best' , although admittedly my best car isn't that special.

What style of car is it ? ( Hatchback , saloon, estate, etc ) , if the mutt has been sitting on the seats then you may never get rid of the smell as it will be too ingrained into the foam etc. It depends on how good the interior of the car is. If it was me i would remove the offending smelly interior and give it a good scrub ( I'd probably jet wash it being honest ) and then leave it outside in the fresh air / sunshine for a few days.... not saying thats what you should do.

When i got my current 'dog car' i stripped the 'soft' interior of the hatchback area out and stored it , then i cut out some copy patterns out of carpet remnants. When it gets a bit whiffy i now just skip the offending bit of carpet and put a new peice in, the dog loves it, I wish he'd stop licking the back window though , yuk !

Dogs are smelly, dirty animals, they roll in ****e, eat ****e, lick other dogs bottoms and love diving into horrible smelly water, not the sort of thing you'd want in a nice posh car....

    Good luck...

yeah, I've the same trouble - I've used fabreeze with little effect (the previous owner of the car I bought must have had a dog) and the same with the air freshner - the smell worsens on hot days, but it's not that bad...but saying that, I would like to get rid of it...

Spill some milk. It smells even worse and will soon mask the doggy pong.

I once did spill milk - a whole pint of the stuff soaked into the carpet in the rear footwell of my Rover 100. I washed out as much as I could but it still stank.

I ended up getting a Neutradol air freshener and leaving it in there. It took a couple of months but it worked in the end.

Go to a scapyard and buy and change the seats/carpet. Once dog stink has got into the existing fabrics you will never get rid.
