Now, hopefully they won't **** this one up like they did the Millenium Groan.

Wonder where the mountain biking is going to be held...

Im just glad it wasnt Paris, anywhere but France!

Isaac, did you come to Chorley for the Commonwealth games mountain biking? The course was about 10 mins from my house. The course was shut to the public a week before but the riders could use the area around it, it was quite something to see them going that fast! Talking of those games, most of the riding took place round Chorley and surrounding area so we had loads of the riders on the road practicing. A rider from one of the African nations decided do have a jaunt down the M61!

My worry with Londoners is they do have a habbit of vastly over spending. Oh you cannot have the Metrolink becuase we are too busy spending £25 trillion on a new entrance for Euston station.

Bear in mind that the thread starter is French and these kind of statements are, at best, childish, and at worst, just another example of typical British xenophobia  . The anti-French joke on the front page of the Daily Mail today is another and really disgusted me when I saw it

It's funny to see Michael stereotype the British while bemoaning them stereotyping the French.... And surely Chirac started the latest round? On any rational basis the French are more xenophobic than the British, but I like them anyway.

I work for an anglo-french company. The French are a nightmare to do business with but when the work is done and it's time for lunch or time to go to the pub, we get along just fine. Nothing wrong with a little playful rivalry. The French are not slow to celebrate any small victory over 'les rosbifs' but it's not malicious.

Hmm... a bit sceptical re all this Olympic business TBH. Largely a lot of self serving ego pushing I think.

London's tubes can't cope with normal rush hour traffic as it is. Nice that the Olymic reps had a specially laid on empty tube and went a whole three stations or something on their junket over here.

AS to the benefits, AFAIK any city that has held the Opics has been paying it off for years afterwards. Athens will be so for the next 20 years!

Also as far as I'm aware my C TAX will go up!

Roll on the secret dodgy deals, let the olympic gold rush begin!

I know where SG hails from and its was a cheeky remark. FWIW Michael, I think you'll find the french press have made much more of a meal (oh what a pun) of the last few days than anyone over here has. Im insulted you've tarnished me as a xenophobe when you know nothing about me or my views. Round here takin the piss out of each other is what makes the day brighter maybe me and the rest of the people I know need to grow up and get serious.

Fair points but on the flip side the cities that have hosted the games have been greatly improved. I believe alot of derelict land will be developed with alot on new housing meaning less will have to move up here :D

Which part of "anywhere but France!" or "just more happy because we beat the french" is stereotyping the French? They're actually both examples of an irrational hatred for the French that many Brits seem to have.

And that makes it OK I suppose? An eye for an eye and the whole world will go blind.

    Based on what?

So do I. I lived in Paris for 6 years :)

    Michael.

    fantastic!

I'd like to see an event or two, especially the mountain biking. Wonder where they will have that?

London will simply have to have investment in its infrastructure now, which is good for any regular visitor to the city I think.

Sir Gallahad, you have the tour de france every year, and I would trade you in a heartbeat for a single olympic games :). I'm sure France will get one soon, they are overdue I'd say.
