Can anyone recommend a solid copper cored cable/IC? i need to try and tame a harsh treble and have been recommended to try solid copper over against the silver I`m currently using, system is around £5k.
    thanx

B&w CDM1 Nt (on filled Mission Stance Stands)
    MJ Acoustic ref100 sub
    QED silver profile12 spk cable

(The B&W`s are probably going to go soon)

I'd lose the QED silver cable, its known for being thin and bright. Play with the amount of filling in the stands also, more filling = faster bass but leaner.

Yeah, that`s what i`ve been recommended to do but needed recs on which(if any!?) solid copper cable is considered a good buy.

Try a heavy stranded one first, solid speaker cable often lacks bass weight and diynamics

Are you able to roll your own Cat?

If so a good quality solid-core equipment wire can be bought for very little outlay. Cut two equal lengths of around 2m, tie both ends to a solid fixing (like a hook in a wall or door handle) and clamp the other two ends in the chuck of a power drill. Pull tightly on the wires and give the power drill a few pulses – this will give you a nice uniform twisted cable. Cut a 1m section from the middle of the twisted cable, separate the ends a little, and solder on some Delton or Neutrik phono plugs.

    Bobs yer Dads brother! ;)

Obviously this procedure needs to be done twice for a pair.

Alternately I believe Cyrus market solid core interconnects with rather good Eichmann phono plugs.

The problem is 2 fold, the speaker cable and the speakers, don't use a band aid, sort the problem at source. :) Wm

i think  you`re saying change the speakers AND the cables to solve the problem???? this was and is my intention BUT i have been told that a change in cabling could go a long way (and be a s**tload cheaper) in reducing harsh treble prior to my expected speaker change.

I think the Cyrus is a re-branded DNM Reson? Audioquest also do solid-core. I've never used either so can't comment on them further. Sorry.

I'm on the same search for solid-core, but fancy a flat rather than round section. Does anybody know of any (that doesn't cost a fortune)?

    Cat,

THis is asuming you Feel that cables make a difference!!!!.
Now if you change the s/cables to a T & E style, you *may* help the problem, that is only manifests itself with the B & W's. So when you do change youir speakers you may be not allowing them to perform to their full potential.
for now just try some 2.5mm T & E from B&Q about £20 for a 25m roll, fun to terminate, but it will give you an idea and is cheap to boot. Wm

    Wm .....right again !

speaker cable will not over come the short comings of the amp or speakers ....think of it more as a filter the best speaker cables filter the sound least.........the worst well don't even go there.

    Rsand

My own experience is a little different .....

multi srand copper gives a bass bloom [not boom] and gives a big round sound with a rosey glow [if you could see it], they tend to be sluggish in comparison.

single solid core copper ie twin and earth actually sounds good. It sound odd if you have just changed but to me its more natural and dynamic.

I've left copper altogether now .....for silver

My sound is now fast clean dynamic pin sharp imaging and depth to die for .....
