Have got a new computer and I am going to give my old computer to a friend off my wifes. Before I do so I want to format my hard drive and reinstall the software . When I try and format the harddrive it swont allow me to proceed.Do I need the software recovery cd in place first? Or is there an easier way.I tried loading the software assuming it would just right over the hard drive but no! Assistance gratefully recieved. Please note if you have not already sussed I am not a IT genius.

    how about that... me neither!

this looks promising! Depends on what OS you are using, if you just Google "reinstall windows", a shedload of links appear! If you use quotes around a phrase like above it forces google just to look for those words as they appear and cuts through all the rubbish!
