I like the look of the TT. Is that an LP12 platter? Tell us more?

yep its Iron Maiden, had an evening of nostaligia:)

Hi Devil, yep its a Linn platter, but not LP12 its from a Linn Basik. It uses the bearing platter and motor from the Basik.
The plinth is layers of MDF loaded with lead shot as is the motor pod.
The sound is certainly better than the Basik in standard trim but i think ultimately held back by the platter and bearing. It's also extremely ugly;) but was only intended as a proto-type.
The platter rings like a cow bell if knocked, next plan is a Scheu 80mm platter with bearing and a better motor, noty sure about plinth design on the next TT yet, probably try acrylic

    Why not try contacting Michell.

They do imperfect Orbe platters for £80-£130.

For a motor unit, have you thought about origin live?

    Just some ideas!

    Cheers

i looked at OL, but ive seen a few people complain about thier quality control, the Scheu motor is relatively cheap aswell

The Michell idea sounds good, im waiting at the mo to hear from Scheu regarding a cosmetically imperfect 80mm thick acrylic platter, if that comes off ill probably get it, if not ill give Michell a call

How high is your TT off the ground? Looks like you'd need a step ladder to see where you're putting the needle down....you might be able to get some tips on dealing with "high up hifi" from the Mana boys :D
