january 2004, i was pickpocketed in Barcelona.

middle of last year, the card was swallowed by an ATM in my local town.

so the card should have been replaced twice, the card issuer confirmed the last time was May last year.

but somehow someone has spent on my current credit card account, the grand total of £4.24

colleague suggested they'd used it for phone calls; there's 79p twice, 80p, andd £1.86, 3 times in the same place, description sounds like a bar or hotel.

just looked it up, A.C.E.S.A looks like someone is paying motorway tolls around Barcelona.

not exactly the biggest spending spree ever !

card is now blocked. i'm just curious how this has started happening.

Hard to say, let's hope someone on this forum works in card validation for Spanish toll roads.

    ;)

I do hope that this was not the first part of an identity theft scheme iirc in the UK you can check with the likes of Experian & Equifax to see if odd things are happening to your credit rating.

good pt, will check over experian etc later re identity fraud.

the £4 could have been a test before they go for the full £5k (not that they'd know the credit limit available)

the card number is completely different to the one that was stolen in barcelona, so is the city just a coincidence ?
