    Jesus, it seems every thread on here nowadays provokes a lot of kneejerk Daily Mailisms.

    I don't think I'll bother to come back for a while, it's not good for my sanity to be surrounded by such a bunch of bigots.

    I think it's a good idea. I don't see how it can be another incentive for additional pregancies (underage or not) since it's the child that gets the money and not until reaching the age of 18. Anyone seeing £500 as a justification for another child needs help, and I don't mean financial.

    Calm down Ian, it's only a ..... :D.

    Actually this might be better than child benefit, maybe they should freeze it for a few years to pay for this scheme (of course only for those kids born after september 2002).

    On the other hand some couples really rely on child benefit.

    It sounds like more social engineering though, and I wish this government would stop it. Like the stupid rule to make graduates work till 70, my grandma is 76 and she is old and elderly, I would not to work to almost that age.

    ok, Ian, seriiously, please tell me what the appropriate course of action should be, how do we respond to things we dont like that are happening in the country? it lets off steam to mumble and grumble.brits have always done that. we go on because we care and we are bothered by it all, how do you suggest, ignore it, don't let it bother us? please inform.
