My dads machine started making a burning smell so I took it to a million pieces got the motor out then started to disconnect it, the only problem is I damaged the crimping while I was it.

I also cannot work out how to get this filter of the motor whichs means I cannot replace it myself. I have how put the multimeter on it and the motor is dead I just can't believe I have done somthing so stupid to damage the crimp.

When we take into the shop I shall have to come clean and admit I have tried to repair it myself now, don't engineers hate people like me?

No they love you, they just add an extra £50 to the bill and make sure you feel stupid after damaging a 'perfectly good' item, so you are less inclined not to pay the extra....

What type of machine are we refering to here BTW....?

I assume its an AC motor has there is no transformer. Its a carpet cleaning machine. We have taken it into the shop now so they will repair it. The crimping isn't really a problem it only take them seconds to fix that.
