Has anyone heard one of these, have an opinion - USA built uses autoformers rather than transformers - can anyone explain in basic anglais whether this has an advantage or disadvantage? Ta

I'm borrowing one using the Dave Slagle autoformers at the moment. This sounds better to my ears than either the copper or silver MFA units I tried. Having said that I still prefer my active output transformered pre-amp with a conventional Noble pot fitted.

At the moment I am using a Music First Audio transformer coupled pre.
At first it was disapointing in comparison to my stepped attenuator active pre.
After a while the tx's bedded in and the sound was then acceptable!
I have had real difficulty in siting the MFA pre, due to the design of the tx's. at all times the pre was buzzing. It seems very susceptable to induced volts. In other words i had to remove from my rack most of my mains driven eqpt!
But the sound quality has improved to the point that I can say this is one of the finest pre's built in the UK at the moment.
If you are prepared to reconfigure your eqpt go for it!

That sounds like just a question of shielding or simply earthing the case ?

Active pre's IOHO is just so much more complete than any of the passives we have heard thus far.
