I use a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 in my PC. SB cards never play nicely with VIA chipsets. I think it came with a MIDI port for the onboard sound, but I didn't bother fitting it. The Creative also came with a MIDI port, but again, I didn't bother fitting it - wanted the extra slot space for cards/connetors for USB/FireWire ports.

The 6200 is a decent budget board. I bought an MSI 128MB 6200 board from Novatech - direct from the store, as I live fairly nearby. Cost was about £54, IIRC.

oh right so you run a Nvidia 6200 video card, what is it like, any limitations you seen, do you play many games? You think the card on overclockers is a reasonable deal?
Ya just noticed your details, pompy boy a?, I was born, dragged up around that area, Copnorr Road.

I know Copnor Road pretty well, although I actually live on Winter Road. Have been here nearly 7 years now. I'm not from Portsmouth - was born in Plymouth, lived there 4 and a half years, then moved to Hong Kong for 14 years. Moved to Portsmouth in September 1998 and have been there since. Originally here for university, now on my second job here.

I don't play many games at all, to be honest, but it appears to run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with the London Heathrow Pro addon pretty well at a resolution of 1280x1204, using 'Medium High' quality settings. Graphics seem pretty detailed and fluid in terms of motion. The card on Overclockers looks like an excellent deal - I paid £54 for my 128MB card. XFX also seem to have a decent reputation. Not sure if you intend to overclock - I personally don't - if I need speed, I'll pay for it, but you may be able to get away with some overclocking.

Really? Any idea if that's what my Gigabyte board uses? Might explain a lot.

Sound's FINE in Doom3 btw, but San Andreas has minor noisy bugs which are apparent in both frame limited/unlimited modes. I'll remove all the drivers and try reinstalling everything when I get back from Liverpool in a week's time.

Nsherin - Plymouth eh? I was born in Penzance, and ended up in Plymouth from 1977 -> 1996 when I left Reading Uni (and got stuck there!). I used to live up on the Birdcage Farm Estate (non-council) near the George Hotel, right up near the airport!

It'll probably be a realtek Dom, but check the manual it should say. Got my 6200 card today, going to put it in and see if it was a waste of £50 or not! :) My 3dmarks03 are 1950 (with my overclocked ti4400 card), lets see what happens.

Where do you get the 3dmarks thingy from? Will have a blitz on my PC when I get back from Liverpool - see if I can't tart it up a bit and suss this sound thing out!

Oh dear my first run with the stock 6200 in 3dmarks03 was 2080, I was expecting a little better than that. though it was able to complete all the tests where the ti4400 wasn't. (since it didn't have some of the features). A little disappointed with that, since going from a AGP 4x to 8x expected better performance I've seen tests where the 6200 got over 3000 marks, so will have to see if I can tweak it at all. I'm not expecting miricales because its a cheap card, but was expecting something better than this.

What's the expected result for a newer GFX card? I've just run this (after seeing The Pixies in Edinburgh - yey!) and got 3635, which seems fair but is it?? Need more RAM and CPU probably, as some of these tests are HORRIFICALLY slow. BTW Feature and Batch size tests all come out as N/A???

There's an Online Results Browser which allows you to compare with other people who have the same specifications - ignore the top 50% or so because all the highest scores are machines tweaked to the absolute max by obsessive enthusiasts...

Glad you had a good time 'up north' dom, is that 3dmark05 that you ran this time, if so then that's a good score, wouldn't be too upset about that mate. I get 1658.

Yep, 3dmark05 - the one with the airship thingie in it (looks well cool!) - what's the story with the second round of game runs though - it's down to 1fps on those or lower!?
