For the first time at the Northern Hi FI Show we will be demonstrating Soundsmith's award-winning strain gauge cartridge system, the SG-610. We will also have information on the new entry-level model, the SG-200.

We will be in room 202 on the second floor and look forward to welcoming you to our demos which will be vinyl-based (although we may be tempted to unleash the media server solution we are developing).

Amplification will be Soundsmith's HE-150 power amp and making their first appearance in Europe, Green Mountain Audio's Rio stand mount speakers.

Green Mountain Audio isn't that well known outside the US. Their design goal is time coherence - their designs are unique because sound leaves the drivers in phase and arrives at the listening position in phase. The consequence is excellent imaging and great dynamics.

We took these speakers to a well known reviewer recently who was very impressed by how well they timed when driven by his Naim 500 series amplification.

You may know that we aren't huge fans of direct radiating speakers that exhibit boxy colourations. The Green Mountain range is the first we've heard that have convincing dynamics and tonality.

We will be burning the midnight oil on Friday evening to get our system to sound as good as we can in an unfamiliar room.

The NHFS is being held at the SAS Radisson Hotel at Manchester Airport.
