Yep, only at the show, but they sounded superb. I think you'd have to be careful with bass boom as you say. I suspect they're voiced with (enormous) Canadian timber-frame rooms in mind, which might explain their very healthy bass output.

Interesting design conceptually speaking, and built like brick outhouses. Me want!

I've seen some Mezzo Utopea's for about £3-4k.

I doubt that has the berillium tweeter however.

Having seen how much the drivers cost in exotic speakers, I'd say go diy. Many £10k speakers can be built for £1-2k. Think what £10k diy will make you! Buy some Focal or dynaudio drivers and make or comission cabinets.

Or just bung a coil on the subs :D See how loud you can go without getting a tweeter cone in the eye

May I recommend Audiophysic Avanti mkIII speakers? Not horns, but sensitive, very dynamic and full range, beautiful cabinets and incredibly fast, detailed and everything a top end speaker should be.

    Around £8.5k:

I know of a near mint pair selling for £4k delivered in person (within a reasonable distance of, um, my house ;) )

Something smaller. I really don't want to do it, but we've recently had a baby and I can no longer justify the luxury of a listening room, so I may 'slum it' with a pair of standmounts and a (to be purchased) subwoofer.

They're sensationally good speakers... among the best available, truly (I have listened to many, many speakers)...

...I just LOVE these speakers... but family must come first...

I already have a pair of AVI Pro Nine+ monitors which are surprisingly decent speakers. Not quite in the Avanti league, especially in terms of absolute detail and dynamics, but very listenable and something I could settle on.
