    This is for a friend.

He needs new speakers to partner a Marantz SR4300 (?), source is a sony DVD player.
He mainly listens to hard techno and thrash type stuff. So he wants something fast and with good bass.
    Budget 6 - 800quid.

    :)

AVRs aren't typically known for their musical abilities, and the SR4300 is not high in the range.

Might be worth spending £100 or so on an s/h rotel power amp and a bit less on the speakers.

Second hand Rotel RB991 (2 x 200 watts into 8 ohms... and then some) and a pair of B & W DM603 S2's ought to do the trick... and within budget.

At the end of the day, his set-up is limited by the fact that he's using a DVDP as a source and a low-end A/V receiver as amplification.... It won't be particularly fast and the bass won't be great.... But you know that.

Can't you sell him your Dyn's and the stands :D

Sounds like it might be B+W territory or perhaps a pair of Missions. £500 on them and a better integrated, he could get 7200 use that for the front, and the surround for the back. What's he using for speakers at the moment?
The source won't be doing him any favours either

His system is screy. current speakers are an old pair of Leak.
I doubt i will get him to buy a new integrated, although he did nearly take my 1090 away a few weeks ago.
I was thinking B&W aswell, but i know nothing about them, or what is on the market in that price bracket.
Apparently the Dyns cant possibly produce any bass:rolleyes: :D

naah the 'classic' with horn loaded mid and treble and that 15 inch bass would do me.

the e or v series would be nice too.

has anyone actually heard any of these monsters? outside of a club i mean.
    cheers

Thats what I thought too Julian when I saw the pics. My face lit up!

A closer look though and they arent compression horns, just regular mid range and tweeters with a wave guide. :( what a swiz!

    booooo

Mind you, I like the nastiness of having 2 x 15" woofers in each speaker. hehehe 'guaranteed eviction notice speakers' indeed

    Julian,

I vaguely remember a hifi world review of some 15" Cerwin Vega monsters years ago. They said it wasnt really a hifi speaker, but recommended that you had a pair for parties! A lot of fun for £600!

    pass me the burberry :D
to be honest the e or v series are probably more viable except for the ridiculously high sensitivity - my amps are a bit all or nothing on the volume range so 'low sensitivity' speakers would help the no sound, lound, f*ck me syndrome i suspect would happe n with 104db sensitivity.
    cheers
