what speaker cable can you recomend..?

I've been looking at the Ecosse CS2.3 - about 2-3 metrs terminated...this would cost about 100 new...

any comments, or has anyone any recomendations..?

    Hi,

You can get individual runs of 14 gauge solidcore hyperlitz cable with PE or PTFE insulation (depending on brand) for between free (if you know how) or around 50 pence/m, if I cut out the audiophile hypebole I just call it Cat5 Network cable.

You do need to termionate them yourself, but it is not all that hard. You can get affordable solderless banana connectors or if you can solder I recommend the so-called "Z-Plugs", quite inexpensive hollow pin testequipment plugs available from RS Components.

    Ciao T

I have some Ecosse CS2.3 and I think it sounds great, although there are many alternatives that I haven't ever tried. It's a good choice anyway, IMO.

Ive got Chord Oddysey 2 x 4 mtr lenths that I will be selling off in 2 weeks time when I get my new speakers. It cost me £180 I have had it 3 yrs and I have been well happy with it. I demed Townsend Isolda cost £600 for what I need and for the difference in sound, no way I went back to Oddysey. £90 if you want it,its terminated as welland is single runs with guns at one end for biwire speaker terminations.

    if so, I'll take it

edit - just noticed its silver plated...will it be a bit bright for my system?

For your Nad amp I'd say, Chord signature.

Its only £115 a meter and dealers say its super value, as good as some Nordost at three times the price so there you are , great value, Mr.Cat. Don't forget to biwire, or even triwire if your speakers have the facility. Now let me see, on a typical length of 5 meters that only comes to £3450 triwire plus the connectors. Then of course to really get the advantage you need to create a "symapthy" by using the Signature interconnects at only £500 or so each. Even use them on your cassette deck as they will totally transform the sound.

Now I know this might sound a lot but you really must appreciate the value when you compare to much more expensive cables that offer no performance improvement over the Signature. So there you are, Mr.Cat, money well spent I think.

.........and money for old rope for the dealer, the middleman, the manufacturer..........

LOL T-bone. Yes I had the tab already.

Apart from the cassette deck bit thats basically the advice I've been getting for my Exposure equipment. Granted its levels above Mr.Cat's stuff but even so its still ridiculous. I'd actually be more for the wires than for the equipment if I followed the advice. Bizarrely, one of the guys to advise Chord Signature was from a sales rep who does work for Exposure. Well fancy that ! Once was a time when you were told to use inexpensive Exposure wires. My local dealer says everyone who scoffed, heard it at home then actually bought. Yeah right.

I hope my post at least entertained you, Mr.Cat

There is a fair bit of aircraft grade pure silver cable knocking around on the internet. I used it for interconnects, pretty decent stuff. Worth a look.
