I need to get a pair of stands for mini monitors in my study (AVI NuNeutrons).

I know that Partington Dreadnoughts are supposed to be the dogs but at £300 a pair they should be.

Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) with other more modestly priced makes/models?

    Thanks

best stands I ever had were the Acoustic Energy ones designed for the AE1's. You needed a fork lift truck to move them!.

Often only sold with the speakers though, and suits smaller speakers due to small top plate on stand.

NB What about our old friends HNE? :)

Adam, you're right, I was talking about the Super Dreadnoughts, the originals are indeed about GBP100 and will probably be the way I end up going if there is no alternative.

Dreadnoughts from here. IIRC, these are the most up to date ones, the super dreadnoughts. Partington do a Dreadnought Ultima, that may be £300 but I'm not sure.

A cheaper option of course would be a second hand pair of Atacama SE24s (or appropriate height SEs).

Not knocking them, I have AVI speakers myself, but those NuNeutrons are pretty compact aren't they? Just thinking that from a purely aesthetic point of view you'd want to watch you didn't get stands that dwarfed them.

    Tom,
The old Target "R" series work well with mini monitors.
They are now available sold under the Sonus brand name, but cost £350 new.
I managed to pick up a pair of Target R4's on Epay for just over a ton........my ATC SCM7's which are around the same size as your speakers sound superb on them.
Well worth buying if you can find a pair.

    Paul.

I use a pair of RR3 filled with leadshots. They are excellent.

Being a skinflint northerner, I built my first pair of stands.

Not much to them really. 4" rolled steel tubing for the centre section, 1/2" steel plate for the top and bottom, seam welded and then sprayed black. Spikes were bought as a kit for the bottom and the centre section was sand filled.
In total, £25 for parts (1987), 10 hours work (mostly grinding off rust before cutting to size).
Completely unbreakable as a pair of stands, weigh in at about 30kg each.

i'm getting myself some Atacama Se6s, in black, from work for £45. They should be £100, and have spirit level, floor spikes and are fillable. Update of the classic SE24.
