A friend of mine (lives in Cambs) is selling a pair over at the Wigwam for about £2k.

If I sold them they'd go for about half of retail - so £500 each. I'm more likely to use them myself next year..

Mike, is there a page with more info about them? I did a quick google but didn't turn up a lot. Did you buy them in Japan?

What are you thinking of doing with them? 3-way / 4-way? Passive or active?

    Interesting idea Markus.

Might work to build upper body strength at the same time.

Walnut. I am thinking of using them in a two way standmount.

15" drivers for a standmount? I suppose there is logic in that, a bit like Tannoy DMT II:D.

Actually Walnut, so did I - you seem to think the idea is a joke?

I've seen a pair of 215 DMT's for £1600 (plus shipping and import duty).

It's amazing what's out there for the eagle eyed. You could get them for 2.5k all in.

I recall a pair of them selling for well under £2k (I think) on UK eBay about 4 months ago.

Sound idea providing you cross at around 600hz or do a Thorsten and let it beam like crazy and proclaim you've defeated side wall reflections :D

Pair it with one of JBL's compression drivers, or if your really loaded then a Goto. Radian also have a nice compression selection using the TAD beryllium element.

Fancy something different then try an Raven R3.2MMX crossed around 800hz.

All would be very impressive providing the cabinet and crossover work was up to scratch.

Difficult to implement rather than a joke, for the reasons Shin outlined. Though I can see advantage in keeping the number of filters to the minimum, and of course however big a speaker is it should always be a standmount!

So, would you cross low with a (nearly) 'full-ranger' on top, push that JBL as high as you could, or what?

(Though I did enjoy the headphone joke).

The best compression drivers will reach down to 600hz given a large enough horn and they will be very large. The Raven R3.2MMX Ribbon also does this trick. You'll take a knock in the max SPL but the sound would be better for it.

Other than that your looking at a 3-way, coaxial or as you've said a fullrange driver to which I don't believe a good one actually exists just yet. They either sound rolled off in the top end with no sparkle or air and very often the response is ragged, IMD poor and generally don't have the engineering to do HF to the competence of a good ribbon or dome. My opinion is that coaxial/coincidental is better than a fullrange but then again you've still got an XO point there although you get a point source characteristic and excellent time based behavior.

It all depends how high the JBL driver will go.

In the K2 loudspeaker which uses this bass unit they cross over at 900 hz I believe.
