I heard this amp with some PMC GB1 and they sounded superb. About £1100 new
You may get them s/h for within your budget. They were near a rear wall as well.

I think Harbeths need a bit of room, I'm really tight for space and to get speakers far enough away for decent listening they have to
work hard against the cupboard the systems in. Revolver has already been suggested but I don't think theres a dealer local to me(Cambridge)
    Cheers,Paul

How about a pair of Proac speakers, maybe Tablettes? They work well with valves, are sealed boxes, I think, so should work in close proximity to walls/cupboards, and there's a dealer in Cambridge (the Audio File).

edited to add: Just noticed that they are not sealed boxes, having rear ports - may still be worth trying though, I guess.

SF Concertinos work well with valves , they are front ported
and work well about 12" away from rear walls .

£ 500 will get you a used pair of home series ( upto £400 on ebay )

There were a pair of Snell type K on hififorsale.com about a week ago for £80 including stands. The owner sent me some pics and they looked in pretty good nick for the money.

Why not try a pair of Elacs although they need open space they are very small and have a high WAF

Tablettes certainly have rear ports, at least the 50 Sigs I used to own did. They also needed a lot of space around them too – I had them about a meter and a half from the back and side walls, any closer and the bass got lumpy.

The Snell K's were a fabulous speaker. However bear in mind that the Vifa M21 drivers used had foam surrounds which will (if they haven't already) disintegrate. Originally Snell provided selected replacement drivers with chokes specific to each driver and both driver and old choke were replaced. If these have had replacement drivers but not the correct chokes they won't sound as integrated as Snell K's should any longer, however they'll still sound pretty tasty for £80!

Amphion Helium 2 loudspeakers. Awsome speaker for the size with a huge soundstage.

I heard some Coincident speakers at a show with valve amps and they sounded good too although I think they may cost a bit more than 500 quid - new anyway. I think they are designed for valve amps in terms of sensitivity.
