    Hi All,

Finally sold my JM Labs and to cut a long story short I need a set of rear speakers for my home cinema. Price around £200 (for once I'm not going nuts!) Floorstanders preferred (as big as you like). I'm in Cheltenham so collection from Scotland not possible!

    Thanks, Tim

    Thanks David!

Certainly is... only took well 6 months or so. Great speakers too, and very underrated I think.

Wonder why people are so scared of this make... mind you, you had fun with your Audio Physics too!

    Cheers, Tim

Using floorstanders for rear speakers? Kinda unusual! Do these new fangled 5.1 systems now offer full bandwidth audio on the surround speakers?

Steve (curious - considering investing in a surround setup)

Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS DEFINITELY have full-bandwidth rear channels - should you have amps/speakers to match :) DPLII probably does as well.

I've used floorstanders as rears before - doesn't really work as you need the speakers high up and behind you (so they scare the sh** out of you - something to do with animals pouncing down on you from trees, millions of years ago).

Interesting stuff ... I'll have to investigate properly before throwing money at a surround system... :)

Common misconception about the height thing, most people put them too high up, me included :)

A couple foot above your ears should be fine.

    Check out the M & K surrounds :-

Yeah, but for me, that's still pretty damn high up!!! I'm still about 4ft6ish when sitting down, so they have to be at my standing height :)

Aren't those M+K's designed to fire up a bit like Shahinians? That's why they're so low

How about some Epos ES14s (Walnut) with dedicated stands for £200, collection from Exeter? I've given up trying to drive these with my mediocre (for the Epos!) amps, and I want shot of them as they take up too much space.

They're in pretty good nick, and the cabs have boxes (though the stands don't).

Acoustic Energy Evo 3's should do the business. I just happen to have a mint pair in Maple going spare soon. Make me a reasonable offer and save them from the dreaded eBay!
