Being either foolhardy or gullible or both, I've signed up to do a sponsored abseil in april. Proceeds will go to a Sri Lankan children's charity for Tsunami relief, and I have to raise a minimum of £100. The abseil is being organised by Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, and the "target" is the Municipal Offices in Rochdale, which is 60m high.

Needless to say I will be taking a change of underwear, and hopefully someone else will be taking a camera.

So, here's a new thing. Since web commerce is now so widespread, how about online sponsoring? I have a paypal account, and I will personally cover all paypal fees incurred as part of the donation I will make.

Any pledges? And anyone local wanting to take part I can send you an application form.

I'm doing one for the RNIB on 19 March myself - did one last November and it was scarey as f***, but that was a) 'cos it was pitch black (I did a night-time one) and b) my rope got caught up halfway down, so I couldn't go up OR down for about a year (probably about 10 seconds really!) - it was one hell of a buzz. You're gonna love it!

I look like a right tool - probably 'cos I was (almost literally) soiling myself with terror... Climbing over that wall was the scariest part by the way.

Yeah, the beginning is the worst bit. I've abseiled off a bridge and down rockfaces before, but not for a long time...

Hopefully I'll get the official form in time. Otherwise I can note down on paper and transfer to the form later.

I'll chip in with a tenner, and I'll turn up and take some piccies for the forum, so long as I'm free. Have you got a date?

I hope you'll be wearing your ZG Tee-shirt, and don't stain it!

    Haven't actually got that one....

Was wondering though. Do I wear my Zetex Acoustar shirt? Or the Zetex Lead2Win shirt? Or a Vivadi top? Or one of any number of tshirts from places I've never worked...

Or would that be rather sad?

Note to self: Don't walk past Municipal Buildings on Sun 17th April without protective headgear.

    Tony.

PS I'll fling in a fiver if you survive.

And it's done. Lordsummit can verify as he was good enough to stand out in a rather chilly rochdale for ages while things were sorted out, and then during my rather slow descent.

Those who have pledged something, let me know how you wish to pay (cheque or paypal best).

Yep he did do it, and very brave he was too! I've some pictures which I'll post when I have a spare hour or so, it seems to take me forever to do them, and I'll post links when I've done so.
