I will have a dedicated room in the near future, the downside is the room has plasterboard walls and a wooden floor and the size is 11 foot long / wide & 7 foot high
I want proper tight & fast Bass
must be open & transparent and image very well

The front end will be Audio Aero

looking at other peoples ideas/ Alternative Suggestions to add to my list
I'm well impressed with the PMC AML1's that Tenson uses btw
shame they look so utterly pants

If you want a girl friendly speaker try wilson benesch's arc, with curved carbon cabinets. They were 2.5k back when I owned some, but not sure about their RRP now. Sounded ok on the end of a 4B.

Trouble is all the best sounding gear doesn't put aesthetics first. For example PMC, ATC, Dynaudio, AVI, etc all put a lot of money into drivers. Wb on the other hand use pretty cheap drivers but a flash looking cabinet finish. Depends what you want really.

Kev you just need the bright blue AML1's :)

To be honest you aren't going to find anything to match the AML1's in a standmount package. You could have a look at the Klein & Hummel 300D. Not really much better looking though. Judging by what you liked about my system, nothing passive will do the job. Not really good news ‘eh?

Don't dismiss KEF's Reference 201... my dearly beloved has said I need to get smaller-than-XQ5 'speakers and I'm actively considering these as their replacements.
Might not be the fastest 'speaker (depends on your electronics, which I haven't heard) necessarily, but sure tick all the other boxes.
    Beautiful!

Revel M22 (or even the older M20). Can be tailored to your room and used right up against back walls if necessary. Tremendous dynamics, clear and fast with proper bass.

If imaging is your big thing then the old ribbon tweeter Red Rose speakers (R3, Rosebud etc) are pretty damn sweet.

fully agreed. some of the finest speakers around and quiote often overlooked for more flashy US products.

i would also give a chance to high grade dynaudios. something like special 25 or contour 1.4 can sound scary good if decently driven plus they can fit into any room, the finish is excellent.

I am a proAc fan,I have owned a couple of their earlier models in the past and yes the 1SC's are on my own list
my budget,£3K maybe a bit more if they blow me away
re amplification, Valves, ummmm the only ones I've really enjoyed were the Audionote monobloc's with the Big valves dunno what model they were & Kondo stuff that Definitive use when Demoing their speakers and these all cost silly money
I'm looking at Pass x150 or maybe another early Krell class A
something with balls, the other Option I'm toying with Is Fully Active I've got some Active 20's being dropped off tomorrow
though I've no Idea what to expect with these but I've an open mind so we'll see
btw I dont want to go down the Sub with small standmounts route

i agree ,i too don not aprove of a sub bass unit in the system, a: monofying the bass not a very good idea, having said that, the wilson's arcs are very good , however i had various active units like atc for example but i couldn't get on withA:their built in amps B:their fowardness were pain to the ears, the kondo's were they using 300b's or standard 203's valves, in my listening sperience the best valves i heard in the way of mid and tops were the211's but no amp mde themm play bass, wish you well with your listening tomorrow,, let me know how you get on ,regards, nando.

    Kevan,

The Dynaudio Crafft on sale at MAX is well worth a listen IMO. Mind you, if the room is 11ft square, you are going to have some serious issues, and my recommendation would be for sealed boxes and sub. If you like the treble of the PMC, then go for that - you won't get that type of grunt from any passive standmount I can think of.

    thanx everyone

I take on board what you and others have said
    Re AML1's
what stood out for me with these speakers was the stunning dynamics and pinpoint imagery and real tight Bass the treble was very slightly brighter than I'm used to but hey Simon does like to play at higher levels than I

The other issue being I've only heard the PMC in Simons room with his full house room treatment on every wall so they might react differently at my home, however with a dedicated room I can use treatments without my wife freaking :)
the obvious thing to do would get the PMC's but I'm not in any major hurry with the summer here so I'll have a good look around
    and see whats on offer
btw have you dealt with Max before? does he allow home demos

I've also got A Behringer DEQ to measure the room & have a play with

    Hi,

    The MEG RL901K is "standmounting"....

Otherwise, I recently ended up having another close look at Elac. Their 602 looks right tasty.

    Elac 602 X-JET

Sounded nice in Munich, though I kinda dug the Qudral Titan MK VII better, though I guess it does not fall under "standmounter", heck, it's midrange is bigger than the Elac's Woofer!

    Ciao T

sorry they are not forward - it was just the sound of the rest of your system - preamp or source. atcs are neutral as speaker can be.
my atc 20 is horribly forward and boring with krell 250p and beautifully spacious, involving and deep with cary slp98l. they are not bright, not lean and not dry. they dont have a character. they play what you send through them. bright input, bright output. soft input, soft output.
they are definitely worth of making a big effort to find a good match.
