The only feature of any speaker that is important to me is "does it play the music right?"

Most people would say a £100 system from Dixon’s does that Alex! The music stays the same no matter what it is played on. The important thing is do you enjoy listening to them?

    Tony,

this is the same JM Labs you used to say were dull, unmusical and lacked thwack and groove.

What has changed? The speakers or you?

I hope they are better than the near top of the range models I heard. They would strip the paint off the wall. Mezzo utopia? I beleive it was around £10k.

Thorstens diy standmount sounds pretty good. Hard to judge it in an unfamiliar system but the tweeter was clearly superb. I am thinking of swapping one into my PMCs!

ATCs are bright no matter what they tell you.

Mike, (You also forgot to add bright too) every time I have heard them with one exception I would agree whole heartedly!!!.
They do some thing excectionally well Micheal, superb tonality, correct scale and head room, with plenty of deep controlled tight bass, and they time too. Dynamically pretty well much on the button.
The difference is clear, the difference is correct partnerships.
You too know how much a quality speaker they are, after all did you not seek a pair of Micro's out not that long ago?.
As you sold the Jbl's then you may be in the market for some
The Be range is some what different to the previous incarnation Nick.
If you really want to hear how wrong pmc's really are then make that trip, you owe it to yourself Nick.

    Nick,
I believe Michael has a higher turnover than most dealers in the entire M25 ring
You know you owe it yourself to listen a quality system pure and simple. Until then your just sctraching the surface

Come now WM - I have heard many systems already - maybe mine isnt to your taste but you are over egging the pudding a little bit. ;)

Perhaps Mike isnt happy with his system?

What I mean is that the musical content is there even on a transistor radio. I know a professional music writer, teacher, violinist and pianist who despite dedicating much of her life to music just has a cheapo system.

I think it depends what you enjoy about music or a system. Some like to listen to what the instruments are playing, others to the sound coming from them. I listen to the sound, and experience the emotional content from this, so the quality of a system is very important to me. If you are like my music teacher friend then you will be happy with the stacker system.

no brightness on the new focals.... we demo'd them with a full cyrus system (not known for being warm) and the sound we ended up with was clean.... open and without any harsh edge whatsoever... even playing music that we knew to be bright.

Even music that managed to get spendors sounding bright and unhappy came across as open.. fresh and clean on the focals. Very good stuff indeed.

Then the proof of the pudding will be in the tasting - I am sure you can forgive my scientific skepticism having heard so many similiar claims before come to nothing from various people.

And it would have to be a system without an sme deck in it... else I am pretty sure it wont stand a chance.

No - I am just starting a new job with a new company, so its prudent to avoid buying hifi for a while.

So are you saying you still find them boring then? I know I do. They did force B&W to improve their 800 series though. And if you listen to the two together, it's clear that the new diamond tweeter has leapfrogged the JM Labs offerings whilst undercutting them on price.

JM do look pretty though, and massive discounts are available if you shop around I'm told. For my tastes, a big JBL will better anything either manufacturer has come up with yet.

    Michael,
Not in the slightest sir, they are extremely musical and engauging, and they groove rather well too.
prehaps you've been listen to (as I did) to the wrong pairings.
Currently playing with some Alto's, I defy anyone to call these bright/hard or uninvolving when listening in our demo room.
