Static Problem

I've just bought an LP secondhand from my local record shop and everytime you touch it you get minor static shots from it. It feels like you are touching the glass front of an old CRT tube. The record plays ok without many pops or cracks but can the static damage my cartridge?

Also how do you get rid of static cheaply from a record?

It you get the shocks when the record is not in the platter though, which is why I am thinking its the record. Its just the first time I've ever seen it, it maybe normal but none of my other records do it.

its strange that it would only happen to that record though.try a different sleeve for it.

 

Christ I get this with 90% of my records. Its typical of sleeves with plastic in them and near new records.

I have one of those milty gun things, but to be honest it dosn't appear to do a lot.

I don't think it will damage your cart but can make surface noise even noiser.

 

Yeah this this one has a plastic see through hole in the sleeve so it will be that. Thanks.
