I've just started a turntable refurbishment (more details later if it works out) - one of the things I want to do is replace the arm lead of a Stax UA7 arm.

Are these things standardised in any way? I suspect that it's a plug/socket arrangement common to many Japanes arms of the time (1980-ish). Looks somewhat DIN-ish, 5 pins buried up in the arm pillar and sockets in the plug (if you see what I mean) - barrel diameter is about 12mm.

Just sounds like a standard arm lead connector, many arms use that arrangement. Should be no trouble to replace.

    Thanks, that's promising.

The follow-up, of course, is whether it's possible to buy the plugs without cable. The one I have is moulded-on. I'd rather make up a cable than have to buy a full ready-made.

search that for 'tonearm plug' they're about $27. Not sure what they charge for shipping though.
Couldn't find much else as I'm not 100% sure what they're called, miniature DIN I'd assume couldn't find anything

Thanks again, having established the principle that plugs can be bought separately I looked around a little, finding that Parts Connection lists them (and there's an outfit called British Audio that may take me down a closer-to-home route).

Strangely enough, Parts Connection (and Percy) both seem to be selling plugs from Cardas, but I couldn't find the plugs on the Cardas site - where I'd looked originally.

    But first, some plinth-building...

I couldn't see them on british audio or parts connection, obviously wasn't looking hard enough. $27 seems expensive to me. Good luck anyway
