Step downs - to they hold back?

Quick for for all of you with more tech know how than me, which is probably most of you. If you were to use a 120V CD player through a step down transformer in order to allow it to work here in th UK, would I be hampering the players performance in some way or another?

    Thanks

In fact, you mean a step down, to go from 240V to 120V.

In fact, they may aid performance as any isolating transformer can, just with 2:1 rather than 1:1 windings. Things might be different in the case of an amplifier requiring vast dollops of current, but with a CD player I would not expect a decrease in performance.
