Myself and a few friends went and saw Steve Hackett in concert on Sunday night in Exeter. I wasn't really sure what to expect, having not seen him before, but was pleasantly surprised. It was him and his four piece band, drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, sax and flute. A good mixture of material covering pretty much all aspects of his career, some Genesis tunes such as Blood On The Rooftops, Watcher Of The Skies and the last encore Los Endos which kept many happy, as well as some classics from his own catalogue, Darktown, Mechanical Bride, Spectral Mornings and Clocks. There was also a few acoustic jazzy numbers, the titles of which I do not know, which were also superb. I've not heard any of his acoustic albums (save for There Are Many Sides To The Night - a live set), anyone got any recommendations? He's definitely someone worth seeing if he plays near you, whether you're a fan of great guitar playing, of Genesis of music in general really. The band were really tight, and clearly enjoyed playing in such a small place (450 capacity) compared to the other places they'd visited. Here's hoping they'll come back soon!
