Let me know when it is done and I will see if I can't lug the Django down for a day :)

It's a pitty I don't drive yet or I could bring some room treatment along for the fun as well!

BTW I am about to put a rear shot of the Django in the review part. 5min

You can still bring the room measurement kit without a car?

Sure :) I am a portable person! Though do you have a mic stand? That would make it easier.

    Great view :)

    No mic stand sorry.

Interestingly the active mb2 has a different tweeter to the the passive mb2 - Thorsten rightly indentified that as the weak spot of the passive BB5 he converted to active. The crossovers are balanced input only so only the django, mfaudio or AS passion ultimate would seem to be an option. I may get the input impedance of the crossovers raised to work better with the passive pre.

What do you think about rpg products?

    quick question bbv

as i have not used them for a while how do you tri amp your system with your amps as i thought some of the models you own have different input sensitivities i can't remember which ones match in the range is it all switchable ? i beleive the sst range corrected this input irregularity.
as such would this not deliver a flat power response in terms of volume / balance of freq.
    can you enlighten me ?

They all have the same input sensitivity.

I have a custom built preamp with three sets of balanced outputs based around a high quality stepped attenuator, switch and buffer.

Ahh yeah, the active MB2 and BB5 have the same tweeter as my AML1's. The main thing I didn't like about the IB2's was the mid and HF. The bass was great but the HF didn't sound as good.

RPG are good, but you have to make sure you choose the right product for the job. I wouldn't really want them in my own home though for size and aesthetics reasons...

bbv: How big is your room and how near do you sit to the speakers? I can see that you are not on the ground floor, do you have any floor issues?

PMC state the IB2, MB2 and BB5 have the same midrange unit. Only the tweeter changes if you go active. The IB1 has a different smaller midrange.

Yes but the tweeter change solves all the "issues".

Its something like 7.5m by 4.5m. I sit a fair distance away. Walls on all four sides are metre thick concrete.

The tweeter in the actives is better - some people beleive that the passives have a "tweeter issue" in that its tweeter is not very good. Nonsense of course, but nonetheless the active tweeter is better than an already good tweeter leaving the malcontents nothing to complain about.

    Hi,

All I can say is that when we worked on a pair of the big mutha's nearly a decade back we felt that the tweeter then fitted lost of detail and resolution, next to my/our then reference, the Focal TC-120Tdx.

We felt that no alternative existed to the midrange that would be a genuine improvement that would not include a major waveguide (example, spherical horn with Dynaudio D54) and be fitted with ease, so we left it alone. The Woofers in the main unit and the Bass Extenders we felt where excellent.

So we changed the tweeter to a focal as part of making the system active and including a then new and excellent digital X-Over/Equaliser unit from BSS.

The active and equalised system offered a lot more insight in what was being recorded and a much flatter on and off axis response together with excellent (im)pulse fidelity due to timealignment in the X-Over.

What we observed may very well what some call "tweeter problem".

    Ciao T
